RAFA November Meeting

November has been a fun month for me so far.  It started with our monthly RAFA meeting.  Show and tell is always good and Pat brought her African photo quilt again.  This time my camera behaved, and I got a photo of it:

Pat also gave a mini workshop after the meeting on finger weaving:

And this is the small piece I started:

It’s not a good idea to use a chenille yarn with little bumps every inch.  A nice smooth, tightly twisted wool or cotton would have shown the pattern much better.  On the plus side, this little bit of finger weaving is soft as can be.  Dare I say it has a sensual vibe going on???  LOL  I just did say it, so guess I dared.  more LOL

Anne purchased a great felted vest in Toronto:

I’m waiting for her to pass on the url.  The artist has a business and website so we can all have the opportunity to purchase one of his gorgeous creations.   Never mind, we don’t have to wait.  I googled for the designer and found him: http://www.gaudetfashionhouse.com/   You can even see the vest that Anne purchased  on the catwalk for the 2010 fashion show.  Enjoy!!!

Another member brought a felted purse she made:

And yet another member displayed her felted piece:

And last, but not least, Val showed her felted piece:

And a finished quilt:

Do you see a trend here?  Some of the members had attended a felted wool workshop and we all got to enjoy the gorgeous colors and textures.

Sarah had her art quilt completed for the 2011 exhibit the RAFA members are producing:

It’s hard to see in the photo, but there are layers of Angelina, embroidery and beading in the center.  A lot of time and creativity went into making this piece.

And one of our newest members attended a Nancy Crow workshop.  This is her first effort from the class:

Now she had a brand new sewing machine, had to learn how to use it at the workshop, and has been focusing on the art of making jewelry.   Don’t you think this is an impressive start for a beginning quilter?

Hugs…
